What your guests can do with the rest of the weekend

Marble Falls, Inks Lake and Lake LBJ are all a short drive. What to send out of town guests to do between the rehearsal and the ceremony.

Open field and oaks on the ranch, with the pond in the distance

If you rent the ranch for four days, your guests have time on their hands. That is the point, but it does raise a question you will get asked in the group chat more than once. What is there to do out here?

More than people expect, and less than an hour away from most of it.

On the property

Start with the obvious. Sixty acres, a pond, open field and a working ranch with animals on it.

Guests who have never been out of a city will spend longer looking at the livestock than you would believe. Children in particular. Nobody needs an itinerary for the afternoon before the rehearsal dinner, they need somewhere to walk around.

The porch does most of the work. String lights, a hot tub, and a view that does not require anyone to drive anywhere.

Marble Falls

The closest town worth a trip. Lakeside, walkable, and the right size for a group that wants lunch and a wander rather than a full excursion.

Good option for the Friday, when half your guests have arrived and the other half are still in the air.

Inks Lake and Lake LBJ

Both are a day trip. Inks Lake has the state park, which suits families and anyone who wants to swim or hike. Lake LBJ suits groups who want to get on the water.

If you have guests staying the full four days, send them to one of these on the Friday. They come back tired, which is exactly what you want the night before a wedding.

Austin, when the group wants a night out

Downtown is forty five minutes. Close enough that a group can go in for an evening and come back, far enough that nobody is tempted to book a hotel in town and miss the morning.

Georgetown is twenty minutes and Round Rock is thirty, which matters mostly for guests flying in and hiring a car.

What to actually send people

Put three things in the wedding website and stop there. One on-property suggestion, one town, one lake. Guests do not read longer lists than that, and the ones who want more will ask.

The rest of the weekend takes care of itself, which is the whole argument for renting the ranch for four days instead of eight hours.

See the grounds, read about the venue, or look at where everyone sleeps.
